Welcome to the personal web page of John Joganic. Generally, I do not have much to say about myself, preferring rather to focus on that which interests me, the things that I’ve done and plan to do, and most importantly, the theories that direct my thoughts and actions. As a brief overview however, I am an accomplished software developer with considerable experience in implementing complex systems. Much of this experience is self-taught, and my particular discipline of development is apparently unique, at least in so far as my colleagues and learned peers are concerned. I am currently expanding that theory out of software design into real-world engineering using actual projects in the fields of aerospace and chemistry, two disciplines for which I have no formal training. My goal is to land a craft on the surface of the moon within 5 years and spend less than $100,000 doing it. The details of this work are available at Going Up!

Additionally, I am studying several foreign languages simultaneously as a means of increasing my ability to memorize and categorize audio information. I do not particularly intend to reach fluency, but rather to exercise my mind. At present I have a fairly strong command of basic Japanese, travel to Japan somewhat regularly, and am currently studying for the JLPT Level 2 exam. I am also studying Croatian, Gaelic, and Thai. In each case, my choice of language stems from either an immediate need or a mild curiosity. It is my intention to formulate a theory on language acquisition as well, particularly after I have better grasp on more of the world’s languages.

I am also interested in hand-drawn art, particularly pencil and ink. My own artistic abilities wax and wane as I apply myself to them, but in actual fact, I find that I enjoy looking at art more so than creating it. That said however, I believe there is a methodology that would improve my ability faster than brute force, and I am on the look out for it. It’s not technique that I lack, but the ability to realize an image that I perceive in my mind’s eye. All in all, this is a subject matter that pushes my mind to its limits, and I enjoy that immensely.
